World Prematurity Day 2021 Workshop

"ZERO SEPARATION, ACT NOW! KEEP PARENTS AND BABIES BORN TOO SOON TOGETHER"

Preterm birth and it's complications remain the number one cause of neonatal morbidity and mortality globally and Nigeria is the third highest contributor of preterm birth and second highest contributor to neonatal mortality globally.

In Nigeria, neonatal mortality attributable to preterm birth is over 30%. All Stakeholders across all levels of care both public and private need to partner to reduce this menace. Simple cost effective and easy to implement interventions have been shown to significantly reduce neonatal morbidity and mortality.

The Neonatal Unit of the Department of Paediatrics at the University College Hospital Ibadan organized a one-day workshop to mark World Prematurity Day 2021. The aim of this activity is to build capacity of healthworkers working in maternal and newborn units in the aspect of simple interventions targeted at enhancing parents and preterm bonding and reducing mortality.
